First Steps of Basque Country in Bocce

Last March 27, Wednesday, the Basque Association of Beach Tennis and Minority Sports organized the First Basque Championship of Bocce in the individual category.

The report form the Basque Country (Spain) on their first official tournament;

It is the first official tournament we have organised since our association became an associate member of Confederazione Internazionale Boccistica (C.B.I.) as Basque Country.

We, 6 players, got together in the San Ignacio area of Bilbao (Basque Country), in the two outdoor fields there to play traditional bowling.

We did two preliminary rounds, the two semifinals, the match for 3rd and 4th place and the final. In the first two rounds, we played just 4 hands, and in the rest 8.

As it was the first tournament, few raffa and volo-style throws were made, but some players were encouraged. The tournament was won by Andoni Mariezkurrena, who had previously played Petanque. Egoitz reached the finals and tried to win the first championship, but Andoni threw better. Joseba and Daniel threw very well and came third and fourth, respectively. In June, we will play the Bilbao tournament, this time as an individual again and in July or August we will play the First Basque Championship but this time the couples tournament (3-4 couples).
